How to buy diamonds - Online or offline

In this post of mine I am going to explain about how to buy diamonds and what happens when you buy offline or online in terms of things that you should watch out for.

Make sure that you ask for the Gem certificate once you have decided on buying a particular diamond and that means usually making sure that even the diamond certificate comes from a genuine laboratory.

The best laboratory for the diamonds certification is the GIA Gem trade laboratory.

In Europe it is the Gubelin Labs of Switzwerland.

The 4C's

The diamonds that me and you buy have to be based on certain criteria and that is why the whole industry has been based on 4C's namely carat,color,cut and clrity.

Each of these combine to give a particular classification to a diamond and hence the value

Carat - It is the unit of measurement used for diamonds and it is equla to 1/5 of a gram.
The bigger the diamond the more pirce it has well as more carats and more price and it is very rarer to find as it goes up the ladder.

Color - As opposed to what the general opinion is the color of a diamond is not limited to being colorless and it can be pinkor yellow also as well as many other colors.

The colors are classified as D to Z and D being the most colorles and Z being the most colorful.(:-)

Clarity - This measn how free the diamond is of the blemishes and the inclusions. The blemishes are external whereas the inclusions are external.

The range and grade of clarity is defined as raniging from
IF-I3 . IF is most clear and I3 is the worst form.

Cut - This is what the humans do to add to the overall briliiance of a diamonds and that means that diamonds are cut to hide the inclusions and enhance color. In fact the whole emphasis is based on the cut so as to it reflects light in afashion that it can give sparkle in your eyes .

Diamonds - The Journey from ground to finger

In a nutshell I will describe the journey from the ground where the diamond is a piece of rock to that dazzling thing on your finger.

Diamond in greek is 'Adamas" and that means indestructible and thsi is very true because diamond is known to be the hardest material around.

That said the diamonds are usually found at 12-250 kms below the earth's surface. Of course they are not found in their good state and they are almost like rocks. These diamonds are formed by the carbon deposits and the deposits are known as Kimberlite Pipes or Blue Ground.

Also if you are interested in how to make jewelry then there are ways to do that but I do not think diamonds can be dome at home.

The diamonds takes million of years in making and they come out on various shapes as well as forms and some may even be very clean in a :Glassy" sort of look but those are rare.

Next comes the whole industry which is into polishing and cutting of those diamonds and the huge industry in Antwerp and Surat.

Welcome to all the Ladies and gentlemen(Pun Intended !)

If you are seriously a gentlemen and looking for diamond then I am sure you are here looking for a good diamond for your wife,fiancee, girlfriend,Extramarital friend(Phew !) and let me who else.

I have bought enough diamonds in my life (oops my poor husband!) to happily and merrily say that I can write a good amount on the diamonds especially on where to buy and what to look for when buying the diamonds.
